Today, many general aviation airports are not benefiting from federal Airport
Improvement Program (AIP) grants even though they are entitled to them.
This is regrettable because general aviation airports are a vital transportation
resource for a community. general aviation airports currently provide an economic
boost to the surrounding area, enable critical emergency medical, law
enforcement and disaster relief services, and offer an alternative to
business travel.
In the future, general aviation airports will play
an increasingly pivotal role in the U.S air transportation system as emerging
technologies in aviation and research investments through NASA enable
on-demand, point-to-point, affordable air transportation between communities
served by over 5,000 airports throughout the nation.
In spite of
their positive contributions, general aviation airports lack funding for
necessary capital improvements.
Given our passion for aviation, saving airports, and enabling the air transportation
system of the future, Ford Aviation Consultants are dedicated to helping general
aviation airports receive AIP grants that will enable them to grow and prosper.
If AIP funds are not utilized, there is a real possibility that Congress will not re-authorize
these programs.
